For children who come from crisis situations, a healthy marriage is a foreign concept. They have no idea how a husband and wife should interact, work through difficulties, show each other grace, or apologize and forgive when they haven’t shown each other grace. How can we expect children to grow up and have healthy marriages and families if they have never seen what that looks like? Their house parent’s marriage becomes their blue print for their own families.
This means that, for our ministry to make a long-term, substantial impact in our children’s lives, our marriages must remain strong. We must hold fast to one another so that children know Christ is holding fast to them!
To help our house parents and leadership hold fast, we hope to send them to a marriage conference this June (we planned on doing this last November but has some scheduling conflicts). Dennis Rainey’s Weekend to Remember is a highly recommended marriage conference because it provides interactive workbooks with tangible steps to take during the conference. We are excited for our house parents to return refreshed and strengthened for the tasks God has set before them! |
